Two clinics at the University of Georgia School of Law started doing expungement/record restriction work after bipartisan legislation in Georgia made misdemeanor convictions and more dismissed offenses eligible for sealing, and a Survivors First Act permitted victims to vacate convictions related to being trafficked. One is a general poverty law clinic, and the other is a specialized clinic representing victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation. Both clinics have found that arrest restriction work helps students humanize the 40% of Georgia adults who have a criminal record, while giving clients second chances for employment, housing, and education.
