Even as some people would say that our country seems to be moving toward decarceration and restorative justice practices, the surveillance of communities by police, probation, healthcare systems, and schools continues to expand and evolve. This panel will explore the myriad ways in which communities marginalized by systemic injustices are surveilled, policed in different racialized spaces. This examination zeros in on how race functions followed by the location, method, and modality of carceral authority. As a panel of scholars who write in different but related areas, we identify similar frameworks, themes, and prescriptions across our projects.
