The United States is projected to become a “majority-minority” nation state by the year 2045. Demographic trends, law enforcement practices, migration patterns, political economy, technological change, and vigilantism, inter alia, contribute to contemporary racial projects like genetic essentialism, law and order, and white nationalism. As in the past, these and other racial projects reshape the conceptions, laws, and material conditions that constitute race and racism today. The panel will envision the future of U.S. racial relations over the next few decades, while addressing the rise of white nationalism on the anniversary of the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871.
