AALS thanks the Law School Admissions Council for generously supporting the Workshop for Pretenured Law School Teachers of Color. Many minority law professors choose legal education because they want to have a positive impact on students, pursue justice, and transform the legal system to improve lives and communities. These professors often discover that they face special challenges in the legal academy, starting from their first day of teaching. This workshop is a space where pretenured teachers of color can receive support and encouragement as well as concrete guidance on navigating the tenure process. Diverse panels of experienced and successful law professors will talk about their goals and achievements as teachers and legal scholars and offer ways to successfully meet challenges as they arise in the context of scholarship, teaching, service, and the tenure process. By bringing together faculty who are navigating similar career paths, the workshop also facilitates cohort relationships that can provide long-term sources of support.
