COVID-19 brought significant and continuing disruption to both commercial and residential real estate markets. These disruptions have reverberated through rental markets as well. This panel will consider a range of topics, including the residential housing market’s explosion during the pandemic and its effect on the rental market, issues with housing stock, predictions about the effects of inflation and rising interest rates, a proposed new nomenclature to increase life safety in Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) by recharacterizing certain “illegal” occupancy to “PeriLegal” occupancy, and an update on existing and proposed financing and grant mechanisms for ADUs.
