Effectively interviewing clients is a vital skill for lawyers. Artificial intelligence innovation can be used to create Artificial Persons (APs) in a simulated virtual environment to create a type of “flight simulator” for clinical students to practice interviewing skills. In intellectual property law clinics that focus on patents, the invention disclosure meeting between the student attorney and inventors is essential for beginning client work. One effective pedagogical practice involves organizing in-person simulation exercises where students actively participate in scenarios that mimic real-life situations. As a supplement to the in-person simulations, APs using generative AI can reinforce the learning process.
