By its very nature, a taboo topic is one for which discussion is forbidden or prohibited. Simultaneously, many argue that taboo subjects present extraordinarily difficult and complex social and legal problems. Are there any truly taboo topics in the academy? If yes, how should members of the academy broach such subjects, in scholarship and elsewhere? The section panel will examine potentially taboo topics and the ways in which scholars approach these forbidden discussions.
