America's political branches often fail to solve problems, with the result that burning social and political issues end up, in one form or another, in bankruptcy court. In this panel, we consider several social problems and their trips through bankruptcy. Topics will inclide: Sexual abuse claims against the Boy Scouts; California's Wildfires; Opioid Abuse; and Puerto Rico's finances. By shining a light on this use of the bankruptcy system, we will identify the advantages and disadvantages of using the bankruptcy code to address major social and political issues.
