Disability is often the forgotten demographic in diversity and inclusion efforts in legal academia. Despite the fact that a significant portion of the US population are people with disabilities, most law schools have taken few steps to actively pursue disability diversity. To the contrary, people with disabilities continue to face both structural and attitudinal barriers in law faculty hiring. There are also barriers to the full participation and visibility of disabled law faculty, including a lack of accessibility and continuing disability stigma. This panel will discuss the barriers to and strategies for the full inclusion of disabled law professors.
The Section on Law Professors with Disabilities and Allies will be holding an awards ceremony Thursday, January 6th at 2:00 - 3:00 pm Eastern.
