The eviction crisis has increased exponentially in the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 has also laid bare the underlying racial inequalities that pervade housing in the United States. This panel will examine the causes and consequences of eviction; how the pandemic has altered the dynamics; and how responses to the current climate—from legislators and activists—have influenced the landscape, potentially for years to come. Panelists will contribute a variety of perspectives, drawing on empirical studies and critical theory. We hope to generate discussion about how our courts, markets, and other social structures support, or undermine, housing justice.
