With law schools increasingly focusing on skills development as a critical component of legal education, this program seeks to determine how best to assist our students in acquiring the research skills they need for practice. A panel of law firm librarians will provide us with a view from the trenches, analyzing the skills of recent summer associates and graduates, and then sharing with the audience what they feel law students don’t know but should know about research. They will also describe how they train new associates and engage with the audience in how law schools and firms might work together to raise the level of research skills students have at graduation. In response, an academic speaker will provide commentary on the law firm research expectations, and discuss an innovative model for embedding research librarians in the law school clinic environment.
