East Asian legal systems of East Asia are connected by historical circumstances, both positive and negative, arising from trade, travel, emulation, and colonization. Focusing on situations that cross national boundary lines within East Asia, this panel will explore contemporary dynamics of these processes whether beneficial or detrimental, active or passive. Panelists are expected to consider changes in lay adjudication structures, human rights in judicial precedents and legal doctrine, or in perhaps the ultimate example of crossing national boundaries, how climate change and other environmental issues give rise to a need for trans-national measures within East Asian legal frameworks.
