Over the
past 15 years, the United States has seen significant changes in attitudes
toward cannabis. A majority of states have begun to liberalize cannabis laws—decriminalizing
possession, sale, or cultivation in certain circumstances. These state-level
initiatives have created challenges for courts, policymakers, and law
enforcement, in light of federal laws prohibiting the very same activities. This
panel will explore these challenges, focusing on current trends at the state
level. Unresolved issues related to criminal justice, health care (including
neonatal care), parental rights, housing, and employment will be discussed. The
session speakers have rich perspectives on law and policy in this evolving
field.
