This program examines recent debates over the role of commercial and consumer law in society and considers the reasons behind narratives that clearly misrepresent or misunderstand the law. In particular, we plan to explore the recent clash of narrative and reality in the context of UCC Article 8, the 2022 Amendments to the UCC, rent-to-own device schemes, and solvent companies in bankruptcy. Ultimately, the panelists will uncover the importance of standing up for the appropriate use of commercial and consumer law through client representation, scholarship, and education.
