This session examines whether the so-called “Palestine exception” to free speech—long understood as the marginalization of discourse on Palestinian rights—has become a broader rule governing campus speech. Recent debates surrounding Gaza-related activism have heightened scrutiny of academic freedom, institutional responses, and the treatment of minority voices. Bringing together scholars of law, policy, and education, the panel explores how campus speech regulations may now shape discourse on minority advocacy, diversity, and social justice more broadly, illuminating the evolving boundaries of expression and inclusion within higher education.
