Following George Floyd’s murder in 2020 and the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol, legal educators have renewed the call for integrating anti-bias education and critical race theory into the curriculum. Valdes, Bender & Hill’s Critical Justice: Systemic Advocacy in Law and Society (West Academic 2021) addresses this curricular need, provides a framework to help students recognize systemic injustice, and guides them in creating systemic advocacy projects. These projects include ameliorative fixes to discrete problems that also build the power of subordinated groups, undermine supremacist ideologies, and shift social consciousness and culture toward the noble promise of equal justice for all.
