Well-educated legal professionals are critical to building sound legal frameworks, creating lasting legal reforms and establishing a rule of law culture, both in the United States and abroad. This presentation will discuss the gaps in legal education that ABA ROLI has been working to close in various countries, including lack of resources, outdated educational materials and curricula, ineffective teaching methods, and inadequate accreditation standards. The presentation will also describe the many ways law schools are contributing to promoting the rule of law, such as through curriculum development, thought leadership on rule of law matters, and improving access to justice through legal clinics and civic education and pro bono programs. Finally, the presentation will highlight innovative examples of US law school contributions to rule of law programming.
