In 2020, voters appeared united on one topic—ending the war on drugs. Marijuana legalization ballot measures passed comfortably in four states, including conservative South Dakota. Even more striking, Oregon became the first state in the nation to decriminalize drug possession and to legalize psilocybin mushrooms for therapeutic purposes. This panel will discuss the success of drug policy reform in the 2020 election. Questions will include: How will Oregon’s decriminalization law operate, and will the idea catch on in other states? What are the prospects for federal marijuana reform? And, what are the next steps for those eager to draw down from the drug war?
