ABA Standard 206 requires law schools to demonstrate a commitment to both student and faculty diversity. In recent years, measures, including a public notice requirement adopted in May 2021, have been added to strengthen law schools’ obligations under the Standard. Over the past year, an increasing number of law schools have received notices of noncompliance based on diversity measures related to their part-time and/or full-time faculty, which has sparked new questions about what Standard 206 requires and how it is applied. This panel explores Standard 206, its meaning, its import, and its standards for evaluating faculty diversity.
