The pandemic has necessitated a paradigm shift that includes not only the way we define “global engagement,” but also the way it is put into practice (i.e., how we engage, and stay engaged, in what is now mostly a virtual world). Our shift to virtual has been challenging: negotiating the fallout from shifting immigration policies, providing meaningful online cultural experiences, managing expectations and associated risks, and continuing to help students achieve their goals. However, it has also presented opportunities that did not exist before. When all are online, all are both global and local, in a sense.
