There is a field trip fee of $30 which will include ferry transportation, an optional guided tour of the Immigration Barracks and Museum, and snacks. Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle, additional food or money to purchase food. Snacks will be provided, and light pre-packaged fare may be available for purchase on the island. Please wear clothing and footwear for a hike (length is up to you).
The field trip to Angel Island will build on the section’s main program theme of transportation by utilizing multiple modes to get to and around the island. We will also discuss climate migration while there during a guided tour, as the island served as a gateway to the US.
Meet at John Roloff boat sculpture outside Yerba Buena Arts Center across from SF MOMA at 10:00AM. If you did not get a ticket through AALS feel free to meet us anyway and buy your own ferry ticket when we get to the terminal. NOTE: Please wear clothing and footwear for a hike (length is up to you). Snacks will be provided, and light pre-packaged fare may be available for purchase on the island. Bring a water bottle. We will depart on foot and continue on foot or ride public transportation (via street car or BART) to San Francisco Ferry Terminal; take ferry to Angel Island, hike/bike to Immigration Station, guided tour, free time to bike or hike, return to San Francisco via ferry. At the conclusion of the return ferry back to San Francisco, participants will share Ubers or public transportation (via street car or BART) back to their hotels or destination of their choice.
