This session examines multiple perspectives on mental health parity (broadly construed). The session begins with a review and assessment of recent case law interpreting mental health parity laws. Emerging issues of access, cost, and equity in telehealth delivery of behavioral health services, especially for people who are structurally disadvantaged, will be explored. This session concludes by examining the construction of mental illness and meaning of parity for people in one of more marginalized communities--such as people in the LGBTQIA+ community in need of gender affirming care or people with serious mental illness in need to treatment for sexually transmitted infections.
