Lawyers are the stewards of the rule of law and have highly distinctive capabilities as leaders. Hence, they have a special role and responsibility to play in addressing societal ills. They must ask the piercing questions about how we can do better – and then act. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism are among the current and important societal issues. With the addition of ABA Standard 303 (b)(3) and (c), law schools have the responsibility to foster conversations about a lawyer’s role in society and to provide training and education on bias, cross-cultural competency, and racism. This interactive session will help law school personnel develop effective and creative ways to incorporate coverage of these topics into curricula and to create co- and extra-curricular programming for cross-cultural competency training.
