This panel will explore how law school clinics respond to emergencies, and the inherent challenges in doing so.  Panelists will discuss the contributions made by law students and law school clinics in responding to disasters and other situations requiring urgent advocacy, the opportunities presented in emergency response for professional skills training, the pedagogical challenges in involving students in fast-paced cases and projects, the opportunities for and challenges of sustaining community collaborations as well as professional and cross clinical collaborations.  Panelists will also encourage law schools and clinics to develop formal plans for disaster response and discuss best practices for them, including:  networking among law schools, law clinics, legal services providers and social service relief organizations; training for anticipated legal needs; connecting with communities and community organizations and the creation of a law school disaster relief network.
