The Supreme Court’s consideration of undocumented students’ access to public K-12 education in Plyler v. Doe in 1981 has largely been interpreted to require their admission to public schools and to prevent discrimination against them. With the current administration’s aggressive stance on immigration enforcement, Congress’s failure to pass any kind of amnesty for undocumented students, legal challenges to the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, and a change in the Court's makeup, the future of Plyler children is unclear. Panelists will explore the future of undocumented students’ access to public education in light of these and other related events.
