This panel
explores intersections between family law and constitutional law. Topics to be
covered include: comparative constitutional approaches to family reunification
and the right to family life; the intersection of parentage law with
constitutional parental rights; the historical and constitutional regulation of
sex equality, feminism, and nonmarital families; abortion jurisprudence and
family roles; and the preservation of the monoracial family and constitutional
limits on family formation contracts. The papers will be published in June 2017
in Constitutional Commentary, a faculty-edited journal at the University of
Minnesota Law School. Business meeting at program conclusion.
