This lightning round session will cultivate discussion of how clinics can collaborate in unexpected ways–in common case matters, in classrooms, and beyond-to meet client objectives, achieve student learning objectives, and (perhaps unexpectedly) pursue faculty development goals. Specifically, it will describe how the Immigration Clinic and Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic collaborated for inter-clinic rounds, the topics discussed during the rounds, and the goals of the rounds. While the subject matters of tax and immigration are substantially different, they are not unrelated. We will discuss how the two clinics collaborated to evaluate and develop resolution strategies to real world problems, provide better client service, create synergies, strengthen a law school’s teaching community, and maximize (in quantifiable ways) students’ quantifiable educational experience. We will engage the room in discussion of the potential lessons of inter-clinic collaboration and how rounds can be an essential element of that work. We will cull quick responses from participants regarding opportunities faced by his or her respective clinic or externship that are outside the scope of its practice area and normal teaching as a segue to a discussions about possible methods that could be utilized to facilitate and initiate collaboration and the potential benefits of collaboration to junior and senior faculty.
